Event Description:

Navigating the legal landscape as a business owner can be intimidating. This workshop aims to provide resources for business owners to ease the burden.

Speaker Mark Piekos, Manager of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College will explore topics including basic entity election, how legal entities differ from tax classification, paying yourself legally, licenses, liability, insurance requirements, as well as critically reading contracts and leases.

This event is the first in a series of THE 101 Small Business Workshops, brought to you in conjunction with
THE 101 Retail Incubator Program and through a partnership of the City of Woodstock, the Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County Collge and the Woodstock Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The series is designed to help entrepreneurs successfully establish and grow their businesses.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Professional photo of a man professionally dressed in a jacket and necktieMark Piekos is the Manager of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at McHenry County College. Since starting the role in 2021, Mark has advised pre-venture, nascent, established and transitioning business owners in McHenry County with strategic business planning, financial analysis, and access to capital.

Prior to taking the position at MCC, Mark worked in small business operations in the powersports, landscaping and audio production industry. Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies through the Honors College at Western Illinois University. He and his wife Laura live in Woodstock with their two children and dog Arlo.
